Gaétan Boivin

President and CEO, Port of Trois-Rivières

Certified as an Administrateur de Sociétés (ASC) by Université Laval’s Collège des Administrateurs, Gaétan Boivin holds a Master’s degree in Project Management and a Bachelor’s degree in Administration with a Major in Maritime Transportation from the Université du Québec à Rimouski (UQAR). He began his career as a merchant marine officer then joined Transport Canada as a marine inspector for vessel safety. He initiated the UQAR bachelor’s degree program in maritime transportation and also taught classes. He was then named Director of the Institut maritime du Québec before taking the helm of the Port of Trois-Rivières in 2006.

With a thorough understanding of the issues facing the maritime transportation industry, Mr. Boivin initiated the On Course for 2030 strategic plan in 2018, after successfully completing On Course for 2020 three years ahead of schedule. He is a member of various associations, several sector tables, boards of directors and committees from the maritime community. In 2021, on the recommendation of the four other CEOs of Quebec Port Authorities, he was appointed as the representative of the "Canadian Port Authority" sector on the Quebec Ministry of Transport's Forum de concertation sur le transport maritime.

Mr. Boivin is involved in regional activities and is the honorary president of several fundraising campaigns. In February 2020, Mr. Boivin received the "Male Personality of the Year" award at the Radisson Gala of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of TroisRivières. In 2019, On course for 2020 won the Distinction Award from the Association Québécoise des transports, in addition to being a finalist in the Infrastructure and Coup de Coeur categories. Port of Trois-Rivières was a finalist in the Contribution to Economic and Regional Development category of the Mercuriades 2019 competition of the Fédération des chambres de commerce du Québec.
